Strong Earthquake Strikes South of Argentina, Chilean Navy Warns of Possible Tsunami

Ushuaia: A powerful earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale struck the Drake Passage, situated between South America and Antarctica, causing concern over potential tsunami threats in nearby regions. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has stated that this seismic event does not pose a tsunami threat to the broader area.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the US Geological Survey has revised the earthquake's initial measurement from 8.0 to 7.5. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 11 kilometers beneath the seabed. The epicenter was located more than 700 kilometers southeast of Ushuaia, the southernmost city of Argentina, which has a population of approximately 57,000 residents.

The Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy has issued a warning of potential waves in its Antarctic territory due to the earthquake. The epicenter was identified as being 258 kilometers northwest of Frei Base, prompting heightened vigilance in the area.
