Special Investigation Unit Receives 17 Complaints of Alleged Torture in Early 2025

Manama: Mohammed Khalid Al Hazza, Acting Attorney General and Chief of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), announced the receipt of 17 complaints by the unit during the first third of 2025, involving allegations of torture and ill-treatment. The unit emphasized its commitment to protecting human rights within the criminal justice system by taking necessary actions in all cases.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the SIU recorded statements from 36 complainants and witnesses and interrogated 49 defendants and suspects from the Public Security Forces. Additionally, seven complainants were referred to the forensic and psychological medicine division for further evaluation.

The unit concluded its investigation into one complaint of alleged ill-treatment, resulting in the responsible individual being referred to the Military Courts Directorate at the Ministry of Interior for disciplinary action. This referral followed the confirmation of legal violations through the investigation, in line with the SIU's mandate and operational guidelines.
