Geneva: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, participated in the 39th session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman, on the sidelines of the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Speaker Al Musallam emphasized that the Palestinian cause will always be a priority for the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Bahrain intends to prioritize the Palestinian cause and other Arab issues through its non-permanent membership in the Security Council for the next two years, reflecting its commitment to joint Arab action.
The session took place amid developments in Gaza and the Palestinian territories, with continued Arab efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people for a just and comprehensive peace. Speaker Al Musallam praised the initiative to convene the conference to adopt a unified Arab parliamentary position on the latest developments in the Arab world and the Palestinian cause.
Speaker Al Musallam reiterated the Kingdom's focus on peaceful solutions to crises in Arab countries, ensuring their sovereignty, territorial unity, and integrity, and protecting their peoples' rights to stability and sustainable development. He also congratulated on the success of the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace regarding the Gaza ceasefire agreement, emphasizing Bahrain's support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the establishment of their independent state according to the two-state solution.
The Speaker condemned the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar as a violation of Qatari sovereignty and international law, expressing solidarity with Qatar in protecting its security and the safety of its citizens and residents. He further expressed condolences to Qatar for the death of several diplomats from the Qatari delegation in the incident in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
