Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, participated in the opening of the 16th General Assembly of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The assembly took place under the theme: "The Role of Asian Parliaments in Promoting Dialogue among Cultures and Civilisations in Asia: Opportunities, Challenges and Future Pathways," with senior parliamentary leaders from Gulf and Asian countries in attendance.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Speaker affirmed Bahrain's commitment to strengthening Asian parliamentary cooperation, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in support of sustainable development and shared interests. He highlighted the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the "International Day of Peaceful Coexistence," proposed by Bahrain, as a significant international achievement reflecting the nation's vision for promoting tolerance, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence.
Al Musallam emphasized Bahrain's diplomatic role in supporting just and comprehensive peace both regionally and internationally. This is to be achieved through dialogue, negotiation, rejection of extremism, and the promotion of coexistence and solidarity. He expressed appreciation to countries supporting Bahrain's membership in the United Nations Security Council, affirming that the Kingdom will serve as a voice for peace, justice, and humanity.
Furthermore, the Speaker welcomed the confidence placed in Bahrain to assume the presidency of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly for 2026. He reaffirmed Bahrain's firm support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. Al Musallam welcomed the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the New York Declaration on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, commending efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in partnership with the French Republic.
