Speaker, Pakistani Counterpart Launch New Section on Council of Representatives Website Dedicated to SDGs

Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, launched a new section on the Council's website dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The launch represents a significant step in promoting global sustainable development initiatives.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Speakers also participated in a tree-planting ceremony in the Council's courtyard. This act serves as a symbolic gesture to promote environmental sustainability and aligns with the "green parliament" initiative, which aims to integrate eco-friendly practices into parliamentary work.

The initiative is part of Bahrain's broader afforestation drive, which seeks to expand green spaces, encourage sustainable practices, and meet national targets to plant 3.6 million trees by 2035. This effort supports the Kingdom's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

The Council of Representatives has also been awarded ISO 14001:2015 certification for environmental management, marking it as the first parliament in the Middle East and Asia to receive this distinction. This recognition underscores its role as a model institution in advancing sustainability and reflects Bahrain's commitment to international environmental standards.
