Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, emphasized that tolerance is a fundamental principle under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and is a cornerstone of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national values. Marking the International Day for Tolerance, he noted Bahrain’s longstanding tradition of coexistence, respect for diversity, and dedication to humanitarian principles.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Musallam praised the efforts of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in promoting these values in alignment with the National Action Charter, the Constitution, the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026), and international agreements. He highlighted various initiatives aimed at fostering coexistence and dialogue, such as the ‘Kingdom of Bahrain Declaration,’ the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance, and the King Hamad Prize for Coexistence and Tolerance.
Al Musallam also referenced His Majesty the King’s proposal for an international convention to criminalise religious, sectarian, and racial hate speech. He affirmed Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a culture of tolerance, support peaceful coexistence, and enhance understanding among communities, backed by a legal framework and societal norms that uphold human rights and religious freedoms.
He concluded by stating that parliamentary diplomacy remains dedicated to showcasing Bahrain’s initiatives in promoting tolerance at global parliamentary platforms.
