Geneva: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, participated in a joint coordination meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting included Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, member of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, on the sidelines of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly. Al Musallam expressed pride in the achievements of joint Gulf action, supported by the guidance and backing of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC states.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Speaker emphasized the ongoing efforts to deepen parliamentary cooperation among the parliaments and legislative councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, aiming to further consolidate the historical relations among the member states. He highlighted the achievements of joint Gulf action, which are supported by the leaders of the GCC states.
The Speaker commended the collective efforts and initiatives by GCC parliaments and legislative councils to unify visions and positions, especially in regional and international parliamentary forums. This cooperation reflects the depth and strength of Gulf relations and represents a model of coordination that supports the GCC's developmental achievements.
The meeting participants discussed various topics for the 151st IPU General Assembly, including the theme 'Upholding humanitarian norms and supporting humanitarian action in times of crisis,' along with proposals for the emergency item. They also reviewed vacant positions within the IPU's standing committees, emphasizing their commitment to supporting GCC and Arab parliamentary representatives seeking membership in these committees.
