Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, emphasised that the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for democratic work has significantly contributed to strengthening the role of constitutional institutions and promoting national participation in supporting Bahrain's comprehensive development process.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Musallam noted that the Kingdom's commitment to democratic values forms a cornerstone of His Majesty the King's reform project. He stated that the rule of law and institutional governance have established a strong foundation for participation in decision-making, while supporting the Kingdom's civilisational and developmental progress.
The Speaker also commended the initiatives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in consolidating institutional democratic work through high-impact projects, initiatives, and programmes across various sectors. He highlighted the Crown Prince's continuous attention to all avenues of progress and development, in line with the royal aspirations.
On the occasion of International Democracy Day, celebrated annually on 15 September, the Speaker highlighted the cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities. This collaboration has strengthened democratic practice, served the nation and its citizens, and made democracy a societal culture and a fundamental right in Bahrain.
Al Musallam also highlighted that Bahrain's active popular participation, responsible freedom of opinion and expression, exercise of legislative powers, strengthened judicial independence, independent human rights mechanisms, promotion of peace, tolerance, and coexistence, and the role of national media together form a strong framework of sustainable national and societal values.
The Speaker underscored the Council of Representatives' commitment to advancing democratic work and fulfilling its duties in line with the National Action Charter, the Constitution, and the law. This includes protecting the nation's and citizens' interests, upholding the supreme national interest, strengthening unity and social cohesion, preserving Bahrain's resources and achievements, and enhancing parliamentary diplomacy.
