Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, underscored the significance of joint Arab action to safeguard the interests of the Arab nation and fulfill the aspirations of its peoples, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain.
According to Bahrain News Agency, during the 8th Conference of the Arab Parliament and Speakers of Arab Councils and Parliaments in Cairo, Al Musallam highlighted Bahrain's non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council as a platform to support Arab causes, defend sovereignty, and reject regional interference. This membership is seen as a testament to the international community's confidence in Bahrain's foreign policy and commitment to international peace and security.
Al Musallam criticized Iran's policy of destabilizing the region through Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps proxies and Wilayat Al Faqih cells, which target the unity of Arab societies. He emphasized Bahrain's firm stance against Iranian interference and called for Iran to adhere to international obligations, including United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 and United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution 38.
The Speaker welcomed the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, which lays a framework for negotiations and a ceasefire, viewing it as a step towards de-escalation and a comprehensive agreement to enhance regional stability.
He also applauded President Abdel Fattah El Sisi of Egypt for supporting joint Arab action and emphasized the strong ties between Bahrain and Egypt. Al Musallam reiterated that the Palestinian cause remains Bahrain's top Arab priority, expressing support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Addressing digital transformation, Al Musallam noted the opportunities and challenges it presents, urging Arab parliaments to strengthen legislation and oversight. He advocated for a common Arab digital market, enhanced cybersecurity cooperation, and the launch of an Arab Charter on Digital Sovereignty to protect privacy and ensure a secure digital future for the region.
