Manama: Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development, said that charitable and humanitarian work in Bahrain reflects a longstanding approach rooted in the solidarity, compassion, and generosity of Bahraini society, in line with the vision and aspirations of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister noted that these directives have contributed to enhancing social cohesion and integrating efforts in support of the Kingdom and its citizens. Marking the International Day of Charity, observed annually on September 5, the minister said the occasion provides an opportunity to highlight humanitarian and charitable efforts and initiatives and raise awareness of the importance of charitable work and its role in serving society and creating a positive and sustainable impact.
Minister Al Alawi commended the leading role of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty's Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), and the achievements made in humanitarian and relief work, solidarity, and social support through the Foundation's initiatives and contributions in Bahrain and abroad. The minister said charitable work contributes significantly to social development and enhancing quality of life. He highlighted the role of civil society organisations, charitable organisations, and volunteers in serving the community.
He underscored the importance of continuing to develop the charitable work system and expanding programmes and projects with social and developmental impact to empower beneficiaries, enhance their capabilities, and achieve sustainable outcomes. Minister Al Alawi noted that the Ministry of Social Development, within the framework of national legislation, continues to regulate charitable work and support and empower civil society organisations to fulfil their institutional, social, and humanitarian roles. The Ministry also provides technical and professional support, assists in implementing programmes, and helps develop the skills and capabilities of their members.
The minister highlighted the importance of enhancing partnerships and coordination among government entities, civil society and charitable organisations, and the private sector to expand the number of beneficiaries, make efficient use of resources and expertise, and promote social responsibility. He commended civil society organisations for their initiatives that serve Bahraini society and promote the values of cooperation and solidarity.
Minister Al Alawi also commended all workers and volunteers in the charitable and humanitarian domains and expressed appreciation for their continued contributions. He affirmed that charitable work will remain a longstanding humanitarian value and a bridge that fosters solidarity and cohesion, enhancing social cohesion and cooperation.
