Cairo: Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development, met with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, as part of his participation in the ceremony organized by the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, on the first Arab Day of Older Persons and Arab Volunteer Day under the theme "Giving Continues".
According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions between the two leaders focused on enhancing Arab cooperation in social development. They explored the Arab League's role in supporting national efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, with particular attention to empowering the elderly and promoting a culture of voluntary work.
The minister emphasized that the Kingdom, during its presidency of the 44th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, intends to implement initiatives that bolster Arab social integration and achieve the common goals of member states. These initiatives will prioritize developmental and social issues of importance.
Minister Al Alawi praised the Arab League's efforts in promoting Arab integration and supporting joint social programs, underscoring Bahrain's commitment to contributing to sustainable development goals.
During his visit, the minister toured the Al Azima Centre for Addiction Treatment and the headquarters of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society. He was briefed on the rehabilitation and treatment services provided to addiction patients, which encompass medical care and social rehabilitation programs. Additionally, he learned about the Red Crescent's humanitarian and relief efforts, and its role in fostering a culture of volunteering while providing urgent assistance to those in need.
Minister Al Alawi commended the significant efforts made by Egyptian institutions in the realms of social and humanitarian development.
