Manama: Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, attended the "Tamayoz" conference, themed "Empowering Women in the Digital Economy."
According to Bahrain News Agency, Fakhro emphasized Bahrain's progress in developing a comprehensive economic framework that embraces technological transformations and enhances readiness for the digital economy under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He acknowledged the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and highlighted the efforts of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) in empowering women in the digital economy.
Fakhro discussed Bahrain's vision to lead in adopting smart solutions in economic interactions to strengthen its investment appeal and ensure the sustainability of its national economy amid technological advancements. He referenced the Global Gender Gap Report 224 by the World Economic Forum, noting Bahrain's progress in closing the gender gap, having successfully reduced 75.3% of the gender wage gap for similar work, ranking 16th globally.
He credited the SCW's efforts in integrating women into future sciences, particularly technology-related sectors, through the National Initiative for Gender Balance in Future Sciences, aimed at accelerating gender balance in these disciplines. Fakhro also outlined the legislative authority's role in establishing a strong regulatory framework for the digital economy by enacting laws on personal data protection, electronic transactions, and fintech policies.
Fakhro emphasized that events like the "Tamayoz" conference serve as platforms for engagement between the legislative authority and the community. He reiterated the Shura Council's commitment to positively interacting with the conference's recommendations and incorporating them into legislative priorities.
