Manama: Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, emphasized the critical role of Bahrain's media institutions in supporting national values, democratic progress, and community development as the Kingdom celebrates Bahraini Press Day on May 7. He pointed out that the press is a fundamental component of Bahrain's comprehensive development under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, highlighting its role in promoting responsible freedom of expression and showcasing the Kingdom's democratic growth.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Chairman lauded the consistent royal support for the media sector, which enables it to enhance public awareness, highlight national achievements, and encourage constructive public discourse. He also acknowledged the government's efforts, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in strengthening the legal and institutional framework that supports professional and independent journalism, aligning with technological and digital advancements.
Al Saleh pointed out the influence of the Prime Minister's Award for Journalism in fostering excellence and innovation across the media industry. He affirmed that Bahraini journalism, with a history spanning over 86 years, has remained committed to transparency, credibility, and the national interest, thereby contributing to a culture of openness and coexistence as outlined in the Constitution and the National Action Charter.
He also expressed appreciation for the ongoing collaboration between the legislative authority and the media in raising political awareness and highlighting parliamentary accomplishments. Al Saleh concluded by honoring the efforts of Bahrain's journalists and media professionals, noting that Bahraini Press Day serves as an occasion to acknowledge their contributions and relentless pursuit of excellence.
