Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim: Asian Unity Paved the Way for Global Success.

Manama: Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and First Vice-President of FIFA, chaired the fifth AFC Executive Committee meeting held remotely. The AFC President highlighted the importance of unity and solidarity in advancing Asian football and enhancing its global competitiveness. He noted that these efforts have contributed to significant achievements for Asian football this year. According to Bahrain News Agency, in his opening remarks, Shaikh Salman welcomed the attendees and commended their collaborative spirit in driving the AFC's vision and objectives. He stressed the need for collective efforts to sustain and build on the region's accomplishments for a brighter future in football. The committee expressed unanimous support for Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup ahead of FIFA's extraordinary general assembly next week, where the host nation will be officially confirmed. Saudi Arabia is the sole bidder for the event. Shaikh Salman st ated, "We reaffirm our full support for Saudi Arabia's bid to host the World Cup and are confident in its ability to deliver a historic tournament that will elevate the Asian continent's standing on the global stage, building on Qatar's success in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup." The committee appointed former AFC Senior Vice-President Praful Patel to the AFC Dream Asia Foundation Board of Trustees for a four-year term. Additionally, it reviewed the success of recent AFC events in the Republic of Korea and announced that Saudi Arabia will host the next AFC Annual Awards and the AFC Member Associations and Regional Associations Presidents' and General Secretaries Conference in 2025.
