Algiers: Ahmed Abdulwahed Qarata, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Head of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation, addressed the 38th Executive Committee meeting of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) in Algeria. He highlighted the significance of the speech delivered by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at the recent 33rd Arab Summit in Manama, which serves as a crucial framework for understanding the challenges facing the Arab world and the necessity for enhancing joint Arab action and solidarity.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Qarata reiterated Bahrain's support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for a just and comprehensive peace. He condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, emphasizing that Israel's actions, such as targeting civilians and blocking humanitarian aid, violate international law and pose a threat to international peace and security.
Qarata urged the United Nations and international organizations to take urgent action to end the conflict in Gaza, ensure humanitarian access, and prevent further harm to civilians. He stressed the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as the right of return for refugees. He rejected any actions that undermine these rights and highlighted the outcomes of the Bahrain Summit and the Arab Summit on Palestine held in Cairo.
He also pointed out the worsening developmental challenges in the region due to instability and the long-standing unresolved Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Qarata called for a comprehensive review of the AIPU and the development of a modern parliamentary framework that aligns with current developments and regional needs.
Furthermore, Qarata underscored the importance of advancing Arab parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation, particularly in sectors such as energy, climate, artificial intelligence, economy, education, health, youth, and digital transformation. He also advocated for legislation to preserve Arab identity among the youth.
