The Secretariat-General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has participated in an online discussion hosted by the International Peace Institute (IPI) under the theme “Empowerment of Young Women in the MENA Region.”
The event, held on the sidelines of the International Youth Day, discussed regional efforts to empower girls, especially during crises and epidemics.
Addressing the webinar, Assistant Secretary-General of the SCW, Shaikha Deena bint Rashid Al Khalifa, asserted that the method adopted by the kingdom during the novel Coronavirus pandemic had proved its efficacy in dealing with the exceptional circumstances with high flexibility and efficiency.
In this regard, she listed the initiatives and procedures adopted by the kingdom during the pandemic, which led to the mitigation of the impacts of the pandemic on girls and young women.
Shaikha Deena invited the participants to visit the website of the “Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment” to be informed about the award, which, she said, represents a platform to highlight expertise in many fields, including empowerment of young women around the world.
Speakers in the webinar, moderated by IPU MENA Director, Najib Friji, also included Founder of the Kuwait-based Intisar Foundation, Shaikha Intisar Al-Sabah, former Vice-President of the Global Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and IMF, and former Tunisian Parliament member, Olfa Soukri, and Founder of Foundation Diane for “civic awareness & eco-sustainable development, and honorary member of the Women Leaders Council of Lebanon, Diana Fadel.
