Manama: Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of the Royal Court, chaired the first meeting of the committee tasked with selecting members of the Board of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR).
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Minister emphasized Bahrain's enduring commitment to human rights principles under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He highlighted the nation's dedication to promoting humanity, justice, fraternity, and peace, in line with international conventions and legal frameworks.
The committee focused on discussing the organisational procedures for receiving applications for the NIHR Board of Commissioners membership and the criteria for selecting members. These procedures comply with the NIHR Law, the Royal Order defining appointment rules for board members, and the Paris Principles concerning national institutions' status, as endorsed by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 48/134, dated 20 December 1993.
