Representatives Council Secretary-General Highlights Parliament Secretariat’s Green Parliament Initiative

Baku: Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives, showcased Bahrain's Green Parliament initiative during the 12th meeting of the Standing Specialised Committee on Economic and Environmental Affairs, held as part of the 20th Conference of the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Buainain highlighted the council's achievement of ISO 14001:2015 certification, making it the first parliament in the Middle East and Asia to obtain this international environmental management standard. He emphasized that the initiative reflects Bahrain's commitment to sustainability and aligns with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 through measures such as expanding green spaces, promoting clean energy, and reducing environmental impact.

The Secretary-General noted a growing interest from several parliaments in Bahrain's experience, with legislative bodies eager to benefit from the model as they pursue environmental management certification and strengthen sustainability practices.

The presentation also outlined key Green Parliament initiatives, including participation in Tree Week activities and efforts supporting Bahrain's target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

Bahrain's parliamentary delegation is actively participating in the OIC conference under the theme "Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Development in Member States through Parliamentary Cooperation."
