Qatari Defence Ministry Intercepts Cruise Missiles Amidst Tensions

Doha: The Ministry of Defence of the State of Qatar announced that Qatar was targeted on Wednesday by three cruise missiles from Iran. In a statement, the Ministry said that the Qatari Armed Forces successfully intercepted two of the missiles, while the third one struck an oil tanker chartered by QatarEnergy in Qatar's economic waters, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA).

According to Bahrain News Agency, it was reported that the necessary measures and coordination were taken with the relevant authorities to evacuate the oil tanker. The tanker had a crew of 21 people on board at the time of the incident, and fortunately, no human casualties were reported.

The interception of the missiles and the subsequent strike on the oil tanker have raised concerns about the security of maritime operations in the region. The Qatari authorities are reportedly working closely with international partners to ensure the safety of their economic waters and prevent future incidents.

The Ministry of Defence emphasized its commitment to protecting the nation's interests and maintaining stability in the region. The interception operation has been seen as a significant step in demonstrating Qatar's defensive capabilities amidst regional tensions.
