Manama: Ghada Hameed Habib, the Ombudswoman, received Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, the former Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and the United Nations at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. The meeting focused on the achievements of the Ombudsman Office, including its role in managing complaints and conducting visits to various detention facilities.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ombudswoman detailed the recent formation of a new division within the office. This division is dedicated to handling complaints involving children, aligning with Bahrain's adherence to the recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review before the United Nations Human Rights Council.
The Ombudswoman underscored the importance of international cooperation for the office, aiming to enhance capacity-building and acquire new expertise. She pointed out the ongoing collaboration with the United Kingdom, highlighting a specialised training workshop conducted in December in partnership with the British Embassy in Manama. This workshop concentrated on procedures for investigating complaints involving children.
