Manama: Ghada Humaid Habib, the Ombudswoman, received a senior delegation from the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Trkiye (HREIT), led by Professor Fahrettin Altun.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the visit was part of the delegation's official trip to the Kingdom of Bahrain, marking its first visit to the Ombuds Office. The visit was aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and enhancing cooperation with international counterparts.
Ombudswoman Ghada emphasized that the visit was conducted within the framework of the Ombuds' international cooperation activities, which focus on exchanging professional views and methodologies. She highlighted the longstanding relationship with counterpart institutions in Trkiye, especially through collaboration within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsmen Association (OICOA), contributing to justice and transparency in oversight and human rights work.
The HREIT delegation toured the various departments and sections of the Ombuds Office. They were briefed on daily working procedures and the responsibilities of each department, including receiving and examining complaints and oversight mechanisms for rehabilitation and detention centers. The tour also provided insight into measures ensuring the independence and integrity of investigations and case handling in line with approved legal and human rights standards.
The delegation was informed about the Ombuds Office's role in promoting respect for human rights in Bahrain by protecting individuals' dignity and rights in their interactions with law enforcement bodies. The delegation praised the level of institutional development and professional practices observed in handling complaints. They noted that the visit paves the way for new opportunities for bilateral cooperation and joint training to support shared objectives of strengthening institutional performance and enhancing accountability and oversight in line with international best practices.
