Oman celebrates the reopening of Taqah castle

The Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar celebrated today the reopening of Taqah castle, after the restoration work.

The restoration work included some collapsed rooms, the internal and external wall cracks, and replacing the damaged components.

Taqah consists of two floors.

The ground floor contains weapons stores, supplies and military rooms. The upper floor contains three rooms, a hall and a residence for the governer.

The fort dates back to the nineteenth century in the era of Taimur Bin Feisal (1914-1932), and is located in the old neighborhood of the state of Dhofar.

The walls of the castle were built from solid limestone rocks, locally known as taqa.
