Oil Minister Participates in Island States Ocean Summit in Japan

Tokyo: Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, led the Kingdom of Bahrain's delegation participating in the Island States Ocean Summit, held in Tokyo, Japan. The summit focused on sustainable ocean action for resilient islands.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the summit is jointly organised by The Nippon Foundation and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) under the theme "Sustainable Ocean Action for Resilient Islands". The event saw the presence of notable figures such as His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon Magnus of the Kingdom of Norway, and Her Excellency Sanae Takaichi, Prime Minister of Japan, along with representatives from 35 countries.

Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina affirmed Bahrain's commitment to its role as a leading island state in supporting science-based climate action, innovation, and sustainable strategic planning. He emphasized building international cooperation to develop resilient policies aimed at protecting oceans and coastal areas, achieving Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 14 on Life Below Water, and supporting sustainable sea management.

The minister highlighted the summit's role in facilitating knowledge exchange on marine biodiversity protection and discussions on monitoring environmental risks like sea level rise and its impacts on islands. He also mentioned the importance of building partnerships with international networks to enhance national capacities in scientific and environmental research.
