Oil Minister meets with Head of UN Adaptation Fund

Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, emphasized the significance of international support to the environmental projects and initiative in the small island countries to protect them from the impact of climate change.

This came during a meeting with Mikko Ollikainen, the Head of the UN Adaptation Fund, at Bahrain’s pavilion at the exhibition accompanying the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Dr. bin Daina hailed the role of the fund in supporting the developing countries to adapt to climate change. He pointed out Bahrain’s programmes and initiatives launched to weather the impact of climate change.

The Minister of Oil and Environment said that small island countries are the most affected by climate change, citing the rising water surface, damage to groundwater, high temperatures and increased desertification. He indicated that the Kingdom of Bahrain is looking forward to more support from the Green Climate Fund in order to ensure the continuity of projects and programmes adopted by the kingdom in order to adapt to the effects of climate change.

It is worth noting that the Green Climate Fund is concerned with supporting projects, programmes, policies and other activities related to the green economy, and raising climate financing under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
