Northern Governorate Coordinates with Maatam Heads for Ashoora Season

Northern governorate: In line with the directives of the Minister of Interior to ensure the highest standards of security and organisational services for the success of the Ashoora season, the Northern Governorate convened a coordination meeting with the heads of Maatams (community centres) as part of its preparations for the upcoming commemoration. According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting, held under the theme 'Ashoora: Uplifting Noble Values,' was attended by the Governor of the Northern Governorate, senior officials, representatives from the Ja'fari Endowments, relevant service authorities, and nearly 100 heads of Maatams. In his remarks, the Governor welcomed the attendees, conveying the greetings of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, and expressing appreciation for the efforts of Maatam's heads in previous years. He commended their cooperation with security and service agencies, which has contributed to a notable reduction in violations and ensured the smooth orga nisation of Ashoora activities. The Governor underscored the importance of promoting responsible religious discourse throughout the season. He further highlighted the need to ensure the safety and quality of food provided at Maatam hospitality tents, noting that the Governorate will organise a dedicated meeting between tent organisers and Ministry of Health representatives to ensure effective dissemination of health and safety guidance during Ashoora. The Governor also noted that the Northern Governorate's recent designation as a 'Healthy Governorate' by the World Health Organization is a source of pride, and reaffirmed the Governorate's commitment to upholding these standards by enhancing public health and safety during the commemoration, in cooperation with all relevant sectors and through the adoption of best community practices. In this context, the Governor expressed his intention to leverage the Ashoora season as an opportunity to conduct awareness and educational workshops for Maatam cadres, in colla boration with the General Directorate of Civil Defence, the Bahrain Paramedics Society, and the "Life Pulse" team, as part of broader efforts to foster a culture of public safety. The heads of Maatams and procession organisers expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Northern Governorate for its ongoing support, which has played a significant role in the success of Ashoora in recent years. They noted that the provision of security, health, and logistical support has facilitated the smooth conduct of events and ensured the safety of all participants. The meeting also discussed a range of organisational proposals and recommendations aimed at ensuring the success of the Ashoora season, upholding public order, and embodying the values of coexistence and civil peace that are central to Bahraini society.
