NIHR President commends progress of alternative sentencing

Manama, Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s President, expressed appreciation for the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Interior, led by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, in implementing the alternative sentencing law. He described it as a leading step towards achieving comprehensive judicial and rehabilitative process.

Al Derazi noted that alternative sentencing programmes have proven effective in providing rehabilitative solutions that respect human dignity and rights, alongside open prisons that enhance the reintegration process for inmates into society.

He also mentioned that the institution has monitored the implementation of various activities under the open prisons programme, which aims to develop personal and professional skills for inmates. He affirmed that these activities will open new opportunities for a dignified life after the completion of their sentences.

Al Derazi reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to continuously su
pporting these programmes, reflecting its vision for a society characterised by justice and equality. He wished ongoing success in this area and for the expansion of programmes to include a broader range of inmates, ensuring the achievement of the fundamental goals of reform and rehabilitation.
