Manama: The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) today launched its report, "Documenting the Violations Resulting from the Heinous Iranian Aggression Against the Kingdom of Bahrain and Their Impact on the Enjoyment of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms", during a press conference attended by the institution's Board of Commissioners, Secretary-General and media representatives.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, Chairman of the NIHR, stated that the report was prepared as part of the institution's legal mandate to monitor the human rights situation and document violations in accordance with national legislation, the Paris Principles and relevant international standards.
He explained that the report documents the humanitarian and human rights consequences of the Iranian attacks on Bahrain, highlighting their impact on civilians, civilian infrastructure and the enjoyment of fundamental rights and freedoms. He added that, beyond documenting violations, the report seeks to promote accountability, strengthen respect for international law and preserve the national record.
Al Derazi noted that the report comprises 12 chapters covering the legal framework for documentation, states' obligations, the humanitarian and human rights impact of the attacks, the institution's field visits and interviews, and a set of recommendations.
He also commended the National Resilience Documentation Committee, established by Royal Order, for preserving evidence, documenting the attacks and strengthening Bahrain's national historical record.
Dr. Malallah Al Hammadi, NIHR Vice Chairman, outlined the report's key recommendations, including expanding psychological and social support for those most affected, strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure and digital systems, and enhancing cooperation with the United Nations and relevant international organisations to document violations, promote accountability and ensure redress.
Mohammed Juma Fazee, Chair of the Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms and member of the Board of Commissioners, said the report documents the direct and indirect impact of the Iranian attacks across the Kingdom, particularly on women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities and workers in vital sectors. He added that the findings are based on official sources, international documentation, field visits and direct interviews, ensuring the report's accuracy, objectivity and credibility.
The NIHR stated that the report serves as a national human rights document supporting efforts to protect human rights and uphold international law. The full report and its executive summary are available in both Arabic and English on the institution's website.
