NIHR Issues Statement on Iranian Attacks Threatening Bahrain’s Security

Manama: The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) is closely monitoring the ongoing developments facing the Kingdom of Bahrain, particularly the Iranian attacks that have targeted the Kingdom's security and territorial integrity, posing a direct threat to the safety of both citizens and residents.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Institution underscores that the protection of the right to life, personal security, and physical safety is a fundamental right guaranteed by the national Constitution and the international human rights conventions to which the Kingdom of Bahrain has acceded. It stresses that any attack targeting civilians or placing them at risk constitutes a grave violation of international law, especially the principles of international humanitarian law, which prohibit the targeting of civilian populations and civilian objects under any circumstances.

The Institution further commends the efforts of state agencies in addressing these circumstances, as well as the comprehensive measures and procedures implemented to safeguard citizens and residents and to reinforce security and stability. It affirms that this response reflects a high degree of professionalism and responsibility, grounded in the rule of law and respect for human rights standards, while maintaining an appropriate balance between national security requirements and the protection of public rights and freedoms.

The Institution calls upon all citizens and residents to exercise awareness and national responsibility, to fully comply with the instructions and guidelines issued by the authorities, and to cooperate with the relevant agencies in a manner that contributes to protecting lives and property and preserving security and stability.

The NIHR reiterates its commitment to supporting all efforts that enhance the safety and security of society and to continuing its oversight and advisory role within the scope of its legal mandate, in a manner that ensures the protection of human rights under all circumstances.
