NIHR Engages with Civil Society Organizations to Address Human Rights Challenges

Manama: The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held a series of meetings with working groups from civil society organizations active in the areas of human rights and business, the rights of women and children, and the right to health. The meetings were held as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and reinforce community partnership, contributing to the development of human rights work in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, Chairman of the NIHR, stated that the formation of the working groups aims to discuss the challenges facing civil society organizations and explore mechanisms for joint cooperation. He highlighted the Institution's role as a link between government entities and civil society organizations.

The meetings addressed key challenges, including limited financial resources, a decline in voluntary work, and legal challenges related to the law governing associations. In this regard, Al Derazi emphasized the importance of reviewing relevant legislation and supporting the development of a new generation of volunteers to ensure the sustainability of civil society work.

Participants welcomed the initiative and underscored the importance of enhanced coordination and integration. They also presented a number of proposals, including capacity-building initiatives, the implementation of training programs, increased participation in oversight processes, and greater focus on digital rights and the rights of persons with disabilities.

At the conclusion of the meetings, it was agreed to continue holding regular and more frequent meetings to strengthen effective cooperation, develop joint human rights initiatives, enhance capacities, prepare joint programs, and organize workshops.
