NIHR Condemns Continued Iranian Attacks Against Bahrain

Manama: The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) affirmed that it is closely monitoring and strongly condemning the continued Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, describing them as a grave violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the institution said the attacks constitute a serious threat to national security and societal stability, in addition to posing direct risks to the rights of citizens and residents, foremost among them the rights to life, personal security, and physical safety, which are fundamental rights guaranteed under international human rights conventions and agreements.

Referring to its previous statement on the current developments, the NIHR said the continuation of these blatant attacks and the ongoing unjustified escalation represent a clear breach of international law and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, particularly those related to respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and refraining from the threat or use of force.

It added that such practices reflect a dangerous disregard for international obligations aimed at protecting civilians and preserving regional security and stability, while increasing the risk of exposing lives, property, and civilian facilities to serious dangers.

The NIHR stressed that protecting civilians and ensuring their security and safety is not merely a political choice or a moral obligation, but a legal duty imposed by international human rights law and the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations.

Accordingly, it said that any acts or practices that threaten public security, spread fear among the population, or undermine stability constitute violations of fundamental rights and freedoms, and require a firm international response that ensures accountability and prevents impunity.

The NIHR called on the international community, foremost among them the United Nations and its bodies and mechanisms concerned with human rights and international peace and security, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent and effective measures to halt these attacks, monitor their impact and implications on human rights, ensure compliance with international law and its principles, and work to prevent the recurrence of such violations that threaten regional security and stability and undermine the fundamental rights of individuals.

The NIHR expressed its sincere appreciation for the national efforts undertaken by state institutions in addressing these exceptional circumstances and for the comprehensive measures and procedures adopted to protect citizens and residents and safeguard security and stability.

It said these efforts reflect the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to protect the Kingdom's supreme interests and strengthen national unity in confronting any threat or aggression.

The institution affirmed that the measures taken by the competent authorities reflect an advanced level of efficiency and institutional responsibility and are based on the rule of law and respect for national and international human rights standards.

It added that these measures seek to maintain a balance between national security requirements and the protection of public rights and freedoms, ensuring the preservation of societal security and stability while safeguarding the Kingdom's achievements and national accomplishments.
