NIHR Chairman Highlights Bahrain’s Progress in Combating Trafficking in Persons

Manama: Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), emphasised that the NIHR is closely following the Kingdom's efforts in combating human trafficking, a key part of its independent role.

According to Bahrain News Agency, on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Al Derazi noted that the institution continuously monitors policies and practices in this domain, including legislative and institutional measures issued by official bodies. He noted that the Kingdom has maintained its Tier 1 ranking in the US Department of State's Trafficking in Persons Report for several consecutive years, which reflects its continuous efforts and commitment in this area.

He highlighted that the NIHR monitors relevant developments and submits observations and recommendations to the concerned authorities. This contributes to strengthening national efforts and achieving a balance between the requirements of human security and safeguarding individual dignity and rights.

Al Derazi emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation with specialised international and regional organisations, exchanging expertise, and adopting best practices to combat this transnational crime. He underscored the NIHR's commitment to continuing its role in supporting and monitoring efforts aimed at confronting human trafficking through mechanisms of monitoring, evaluation, awareness, and institutional partnership with reputable international organisations in this domain.
