NBR Conducts 168 Inspection Visits During October.

Manama: The National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) conducted 168 inspection visits within the local markets across different governorates in the Kingdom during October. These visits are part of the NBR's continuous effort to enhance business compliance and ensure adherence to regulations and legislation related to VAT and Excise, including the Digital Stamps Scheme. The NBR aims to monitor the market to protect consumer rights and combat tax evasion while spreading awareness on proper implementation practices. According to Bahrain News Agency, the NBR reported a total of 40 VAT violations following their oversight activities. Administrative fines have been imposed on businesses that failed to comply with VAT invoice conditions, did not display prices inclusive of VAT, or failed to visibly display the VAT certificate. The inspections also uncovered several suspicious cases of Excise evasion, with legal actions pending against violators. Those found guilty of evasion crimes could face imprisonment for one year and a fine double the amount of the evaded excise. The NBR stressed the importance of cooperation from businesses and consumers to ensure the success of inspection campaigns aimed at achieving high compliance standards. The bureau encourages reporting of any VAT or Excise law violations through the NBR call center at 80008001, available 24/7, or via the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul).
