Manama: Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), emphasized the critical nature of human trafficking as one of the gravest human rights violations. He underscored the importance of bolstering both national and international efforts to prevent this crime, protect its victims, and hold perpetrators accountable, all within a framework that adheres to human rights principles and the rule of law.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Derazi issued a statement on the occasion of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, lauding the Kingdom of Bahrain's substantial progress in forming an integrated national framework to tackle human trafficking. This progress is attributed to legislative advancements, the strengthening of institutional frameworks, and enhanced collaboration among national entities, all aligning with Bahrain's international commitments and best practices.
Al Derazi highlighted Bahrain's continued Tier 1 ranking in the US Department of State's Trafficking in Persons Report for the eighth consecutive year. This accolade reflects the effectiveness of Bahrain's national policies and its unwavering commitment to advancing prevention, protection, and accountability while upholding human dignity and rights.
Furthermore, Al Derazi commended the announcement by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, regarding the launch of a scientific research award focused on combating human trafficking. He described this initiative as a qualitative step that will foster specialized research, aid in the formulation of national policies, and enhance institutional capacity to combat the crime through the application of modern technologies and artificial intelligence.
He concluded by stressing that combating human trafficking is a shared national and societal responsibility. It necessitates ongoing cooperation and coordination among government entities, civil society organizations, and international organizations to promote the respect for human dignity, offer effective protection for victims, reinforce justice, and solidify the Kingdom of Bahrain's status as a leading model in the protection and promotion of human rights.
