Manama: Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, participated in Tree Week activities by planting trees in Zayed Town, alongside ministry officials and specialists. He affirmed that the initiative supports Bahrain's National Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality, launched under the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to promote environmental protection and expand green spaces.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Mubarak highlighted that environmental sustainability is a key national priority within the Government Plan (2023-2026), noting Bahrain's efforts to align its policies with the Sustainable Development Goals to preserve natural resources and enhance the quality of life. He added that Tree Week supports the national afforestation plan, which aims to increase the number of trees to 3.6 million by 2035 in line with Bahrain's COP26 commitments.
Municipalities Affairs Undersecretary, Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, said the ministry is implementing joint initiatives with government and private entities to expand tree planting in public facilities and residential areas, and to raise environmental awareness. He commended the active participation of ministries, private institutions, and civil society in supporting national afforestation and sustainability goals.
