MP Al Sayed Leads Deliberations on Journalism Regulation Draft Law with Information Minister

Manama: The Services Committee of the Council of Representatives, chaired by MP Jalila Al Sayed, convened a meeting on Wednesday with committee members in attendance. The session focused on discussions with Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Al Noaimi, the Minister of Information, and his delegation regarding a draft law aimed at amending certain provisions of Decree Law (47) of 2002, which pertains to the regulation of press, printing, and publishing.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions during the meeting highlighted crucial aspects of the proposed amendments, particularly the abolition of imprisonment penalties in all punitive provisions and the regulation of electronic media. This marks a significant step towards modernizing the legal framework governing media operations in the country.

Both parties at the meeting expressed a mutual understanding to continue their collaboration through further joint meetings. This ongoing dialogue is geared towards reaching a consensus that will support the progressive development of Bahrain's media and press landscape.

The Services Committee comprises MP Jalila Al Sayed as the Chairperson and MP Mohammed Jassim Al Alawi as the Deputy Chairperson. The committee also includes members MP Lulwa Ali Al Rumaihi, MP Abdulwahid Abdulaziz Qarata, MP Dr. Mahdi Abdulaziz Al Shuweikh, MP Munir Ibrahim Suroor, and MP Mamdouh Abbas Al Saleh.
