Minister of Foreign Affairs Chairs Joint Ministerial Meeting Between GCC and Morocco

Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the joint ministerial meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the Kingdom of Morocco, held today in Manama. The meeting was attended by Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, and Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing the longstanding and close relations between the GCC member states and the Kingdom of Morocco within the framework of the strategic partnership established between the two sides. The participants discussed regional developments, notably the Iranian attacks against the GCC member states using ballistic missiles and drones targeting infrastructure and civilian areas. These attacks have resulted in casualties, injuries, and significant damage to civilian property.

The meeting participants commended United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which condemned the Iranian attacks on the GCC member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, declaring them a violation of international law and a threat to international peace and security. The resolution also addressed the impact of these attacks on residential areas and civilian objects, emphasizing the need for international mobilization to halt such actions.

Both sides highlighted the importance of joint coordination and cooperation to protect the freedom of international navigation in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to ensure energy security and food supplies. Additionally, they stressed the significance of building on international support demonstrated during the United Nations Security Council vote on Resolution 2817 and the backing it received from 136 countries. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue consultations to address emerging developments.

The meeting was also attended by several key officials, including Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director-General of Bilateral Relations; Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaleq Saeed, Head of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector; and Ambassador Nawar Abdullah Al Mutawa, Acting Head of the GCC Affairs Sector.
