Media plays key role in highlighting climate challenges, says BNA director-general

Bahrain News Agency (BNA) director general Abdulla Khalil Bouhejji stressed the pivotal role of the media in supporting issues relating to the climate change and highlighting environmental challenges.

He highlighted the role of the media in developing awareness among communities with the aim of deepening the trends aimed at reducing practices that negatively affect the safety and sustainability of the environment and thus human life in general.

He made the remarks as he took part in a roundtable hosted by the the UAE News Agency (WAM), under the theme “Shaping Future Governments”, as part of the second day of the World Government Summit, being held in Dubai.

He backed the issuance of a scientific bulletin specialized in Arab and international news agencies, stressing the need to support community initiatives of the private sector, including institutions and companies that mainly aim at preserving the environment and reducing carbon emissions in their practices.

The round table urged a more viable media discourse and news content that contributes to creating a public opinion that is aware of the challenges the world.

WAM Director General Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi stressed the importance of the summit as an important opportunity for regional and international news agencies to exchange experiences and best media practices on the challenges the world is going through.

“The challenge of climate change represents a global crisis because of its comprehensive repercussions on various countries of the world”, he said.

“The Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an opportunity to unify international efforts, strengthen joint initiatives and draw a map A path to the future of climate change repercussions”, he said.

Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) Director General Muhammad Al-Yami, called for the adherence to professionalism and relying on credible sources, streed the need to deal with climate issues.

Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Dr. Fatima Al-Salem noted the importance of enhancing environmental awareness, especially in the Gulf countries, by embracing the official and governmental climate media.

Dr. Farid Ayar, Secretary-General of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), stressed the importance of holding specialized courses in Arab news agencies to deal with climate challenges.

Najib Gouiaa CEO of MediaCity Mauritius, stressed the importance of producing scientific content that contributes to changing the behavior of societies, stressing the need to highlight the challenges facing the African continent and stimulate global channels to address its issues.

Chang Li, Executive Director of the Regional Office of China Media Group for the Middle East, pointed out the importance of raising environmental awareness among the various segments of society through modern media.

Muhammad Onazir, CEO of Metro TV Media Group – Indonesia, noted the importance of highlighting environmental issues and focusing on developing educational curricula in a way that contributes to enhancing the awareness of new generations.

Adrian Wells, General Manager of ENEX Media in Luxembourg, stressed the importance of educating workers in the field of environmental journalism through specialized training courses.

The 2023 World Government Summit represents represents the largest in its history, attracting more than 10,000 participants, including senior officials, experts and private sector leaders, to anticipate the future of governments, having focused since its launch, on shaping and anticipating future governments and building a better future.
