Mansour sends messages to UN officials about the need to hold Israel accountable for its crimes


New York – Together – The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, today, Saturday, sent three identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council for this month (Mozambique), and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, regarding Israel’s continued, The occupying power, its comprehensive attack on the Gaza Strip, and its repeated attacks in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

Mansour reiterated the permanent Palestinian demand for the necessity of holding Israel, the occupying power, accountable to the fullest extent permitted by the law with the aim of stopping its criminal acts, protecting the Palestinian people, ensuring justice for the victims and saving lives, stressing the binding and inevitable nature of the interim measures issued by the International Court of Justice, in the case brought by it. South Africa v. Israel, under the Genocide Convention, together with its orders of
26 January and 28 March.

He touched on the occupation’s besiegement and targeting of all areas randomly and deliberately, in the ugliest forms of collective punishment against the Palestinian people, in addition to its continuation, along with gangs of colonialists, of the daily and continuous attack on the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the continuing rise in the number of martyrs and wounded, especially among children. And women.

He noted that Israel continues its flagrant violations of these orders, including the announcement by Israeli government and military officials of their intention to continue to disrespect the International Court of Justice and its orders related to interim measures.

He also reviewed the deteriorating health situation in the Gaza Strip, due to the besiegement of hospitals, their direct targeting, and the increasing deprivation of sick and wounded civilians from health care and thousands of displaced people from shelter, noting that more than two million Palestinians in
Gaza are deprived of the basics of life, and continue to expose them to danger, which requires Take immediate international action.

He stressed the need for the Security Council to move to demand a ceasefire and ensure protection for the civilian population, in line with international law and the Council’s own resolutions, including Resolutions 2712, 2720, and 2728, and all resolutions related to the protection of civilians, especially children and women, and the protection of workers in the field. Humanitarian aid, including Resolution 2730 adopted today regarding the protection of humanitarian workers, United Nations personnel and associated personnel, their buildings and assets, stressing that this includes UNRWA, its schools and facilities that shelter more than 1.7 million Palestinians in Gaza.

As for the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, Mansour pointed out that the occupation and its colonialists continued to target Palestinian civilians and their property, pointing out that, on May 21, t
he Israeli occupation forces launched a large-scale raid on the Jenin refugee camp again, which led to the destruction of Roads and infrastructure, 12 citizens were killed, including two children, a doctor, and a teacher, and at least 27 others were injured.

He noted that at least 14 detainees from the West Bank have been martyred in occupation prisons, and at least 27 detainees from Gaza, since October 2023, and that the occupation continues to carry out mass arrest campaigns of Palestinians, subjecting them to inhuman and indescribable treatment during detention, as it works to deprive them Of food, medical care, and other forms of cruel and degrading treatment and torture, as the number of detainees in the occupation prisons reached more than 9,000, including children, many of whom whose whereabouts and conditions are unknown.

Mansour stressed the need for the Security Council, the General Assembly, the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, and all components of the internatio
nal system to fulfill their duties and mandates, to urgently address this dangerous crisis, and put an end to this threat to international peace and security, and the historical injustice committed against the Palestinian people. He appealed to the international community to take immediate action to give the true meaning of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and the obligations imposed on all states under international law, including humanitarian law and human rights law, and the necessity of protecting civilians and achieving justice.
