Maldives President receives Batelco delegation

President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, received here today, in the presence of Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, a delegation from the Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco), led by Board of Directors Chairman, Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.

President Solih lauded the friendship Bahrain-Maldives relations and joint cooperation. He reviewed various topics related to the developments of digital transformation. He also discussed opportunities for joint cooperation in the field of technology, in addition to the prominent role played by cybersecurity in preserving digital infrastructure and protecting it from sophisticated electronic threats.

Batelco Chairman expressed thanks and appreciation to the Maldives President for receiving the company’s delegation, praising his keenness to consolidate relations between the two friendly countries, especially in the field of telecommunications through the Dhiraagu, the first Maldivian telecommunications company, one of the companies in which Batelco invests within its international operations.

On the sidelines of the visit of the President of Maldives to Bahrain, a Memorandum of Understanding on Security Services was signed between the Government of the Maldives and Dhiraagu and Batelco, whereby Beyon Cyber, one of Batelco’s recently launched digital companies, shall provide cyber security services in the Republic of Maldives.

It is to be noted that Dhiraagu is a digital services provider in the Maldives, providing integrated services for mobile, internet and data in various regions of the Republic of Maldives, and the relationship between it and Bahrain’s Bateco dates back to 2013 when the latter began expanding its investments internationally.
