Istanbul: An earthquake measuring magnitude 5 struck the Sea of Marmara in northwestern Turkey. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that the epicentre was in the Sea of Marmara off the coast of Marmara Ereglisi district in Tekirdag province, at a depth of 6.71 kilometres. The tremor occurred at 14:55 local time (GMT+3).
According to Bahrain News Agency, authorities said residents in Istanbul and nearby provinces felt the earthquake. The Istanbul Governorate confirmed that no damage or casualties had been reported as of 12:20 GMT.
