LMRA Hosts Qatari Delegation to Discuss Expatriate Worker Support

Manama: The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) recently welcomed a delegation from Qatar, led by Kholoud Saif Al Kubaisi, Executive Director of the Workers' Support and Insurance Fund, and accompanied by Dr. Abdullah Al-Muhannadi, Legal Advisor to the Expatriate Workers' Protection Centre. The purpose of this visit was to observe and learn from Bahrain's initiatives in supporting and safeguarding expatriate workers.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Noora Isa Mubarak, LMRA's Deputy CEO for Enforcement and Protection and a member of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, emphasized the robust relationship between Bahrain and Qatar. She underscored the significance of exchanging expertise to bolster collaborative efforts in the region.

The discussion during the visit focused on several initiatives undertaken by Bahrain, such as the issuance of International Bank Account Numbers (IBAN) for every worker. This initiative is designed to streamline and document the electronic payment of wages, enhancing transparency and efficiency.

The meeting also highlighted the critical role of partnerships with private sector entities, diplomatic missions, civil society institutions, and international organizations. These collaborations are pivotal in supporting governmental awareness campaigns for workers and facilitating the implementation of joint initiatives.

One such initiative is the "Together We Work" project, developed in cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration. This project aims to increase awareness about the rights and responsibilities of both employers and workers. It also seeks to introduce available protection services and consular support for non-resident embassies in Bahrain.
