Manama: A joint statement was issued marking the official visit of His Excellency General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, to the Kingdom of Bahrain on July 22 and 23, 2025. The visit underscored the longstanding and brotherly ties between the two nations, with both sides expressing their commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
According to Bahrain News Agency, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain and President Aoun engaged in official talks reviewing the progress of bilateral relations and exploring avenues for further development. Discussions encompassed economic, trade, investment, and social cooperation, with an emphasis on empowering the private sector, expanding trade, activating existing agreements, and enhancing collaboration in culture, education, tourism, and health.
The leaders also addressed regional security issues, reaffirming their commitment to combat terrorism and prevent its financing. They emphasized the importance of respecting state sovereignty and non-interference, aligning with the principles of the United Nations Charter.
King Hamad reiterated Bahrain's support for Lebanon's sovereignty and stability, rejecting external interference in its affairs. He emphasized the significance of Lebanon's religious diversity and committed to supporting political and economic reforms led by President Aoun.
The joint statement highlighted the role of the United States in Lebanon's security and stability, urging continued international cooperation for Lebanon's reconstruction. Bahrain reaffirmed its support for maintaining the ceasefire with Israel, implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and bolstering Lebanon's security forces.
President Aoun expressed gratitude for Bahrain's support, applauding improved Lebanese-Gulf relations and the Gulf Cooperation Council's backing of Lebanon's sovereignty. He also congratulated Bahrain on its upcoming Gulf summit and UN Security Council membership.
Both sides reviewed outcomes from the May 2024 Bahrain Summit, promoting joint Arab action and regional security. They reiterated the call for an international conference to address the Palestinian issue and support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The leaders advocated for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, humanitarian aid delivery, and reconstruction efforts, aligning with the Arab plan adopted at the Cairo Summit. They also supported international negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, maritime security, and the protection of regional waterways.
Concluding the visit, President Aoun thanked King Hamad for the warm hospitality, while King Hamad extended best wishes for Lebanon's prosperity and stability.
