Labour Minister receives US delegation

Manama, Labor Minister and Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA)’s Board of Directors Chairman Jamil bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan met a US government delegation headed by Trade and Labor Affairs Office Director Matthew Levin.

U.S. Ambassador to Bahrain Steven Bondy was present.

The meeting discussed the historical Bahraini-American relations and ways to enhance them, especially labor cooperation.

The minister reviewed the initiatives and policies pursued by the Kingdom to sustain the growth and stability of the labor market, promote labors’ rights, and keep unemployment rates within their natural limits, and attracting more job-generating investment opportunities.

He briefed the delegation on Bahrain’s efforts to develop national labor regulations and legislation in line with international labor standards and implementing of the decision banning discrimination at work on the grounds of gender or religion, the application of the workers’ wages protection system, in addition to the freedom of expatriates labor.

Humaidan referred that Bahrain has maintained its leading position in the US State Department report on the classification of countries in the field of combating trafficking in persons for the fifth year in a row.

He stressed the government’s continuous interest in reducing this global phenomenon by launching the first regional center to combat trafficking in persons.

The US delegation praised the initiatives and policies implemented by the Kingdom and affirmed that Bahrain is a strategic partner of the US.
