Geneva: The State of Kuwait affirmed that the Gulf group in Geneva will continue its active efforts within the Human Rights Council and beyond to curb Iran's pattern of attacks and mobilise international support to hold those responsible for these violations accountable. According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Nasser Al Hayen, Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, stated that Iran's continued conduct reflects premeditated intentions to spread chaos and destabilise the region. He warned of catastrophic repercussions that could extend beyond the regional scope. Ambassador Al Hayen highlighted the political leadership in Kuwait and its counterparts in the Gulf Cooperation Council states, commending their measured approach based on restraint, prioritising reason, and calling for de-escalation despite serious provocations. He underscored that the deliberate targeting of civilians, vital infrastructure, and oil facilities represents a grave b reach of international humanitarian law. The Ambassador added that Iran's actions amount to a systematic economic assault undermining global food supply chains. He recalled UN reports warning of the consequences of any closure of the Strait of Hormuz on global food security. He also commended the Human Rights Council's unanimous adoption of a resolution condemning the Iranian attacks targeting several countries in the region, including the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He affirmed these countries' inherent right to self-defence in accordance with the UN Charter.
