Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman and held a series of phone calls with the Amir of Qatar, the Saudi Crown Prince, the President of the UAE, and the UN Secretary-General to discuss developments related to the Palestinian cause and developments in Gaza.
According to Bahrain News Agency, HM King Abdullah II intensified his diplomatic efforts to emphasise Jordan's rejection of the displacement of Palestinians and its commitment to the two-state solution, ahead of his visit to Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump on 11 February.
During his meeting with President Abbas, HM King Abdullah II highlighted the need to halt settlement activities and reject any attempts to annex land or displace Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring Palestinians remain steadfast on their land and guaranteeing their legitimate rights. HM King Abdullah II also reiterated Jordan's firm position in calling for a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
For his part, President Abbas commended Jordan's steadfast stance in supporting the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people in securing their legitimate rights.
As part of his diplomatic efforts, King Abdullah II discussed with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the importance of enhancing Arab and international coordination to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire in Gaza and intensify efforts to support the Palestinian people.
HM King Abdullah II also highlighted in his calls that any solution must not be at the expense of Jordan's security and regional stability.
In a phone call with UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, HM King Abdullah II underlined the need for the international community to support the Palestinian people in securing their legitimate rights and to reject any attempts to annex land or displace Palestinians.
This intensified Jordanian diplomatic activity comes amid recent developments, as US President Donald Trump expressed his desire for the United States to assume control over Gaza, a proposal that has sparked widespread controversy at the Arab and international levels.
