Cairo:Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance (KHGC), met with His Eminence the Grand Imam Professor Dr. Ahmed Al Tayeb, Sheikh of Al Azhar, during his official visit to Egypt.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was also attended by Salah Yusuf Aljowder, a member of the Center's Board of Trustees. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla highlighted the significant role of Al Azhar Al Sharif in promoting values of moderation and dialogue globally. He also discussed Bahrain's efforts in advancing coexistence, notably the King Hamad Award for Coexistence and Tolerance, which honors impactful initiatives that strengthen these values.
The discussions between Dr. Shaikh Abdulla and Dr. Al Tayeb covered mutual interests, focusing on promoting coexistence, tolerance, and dialogue among faiths and cultures. They emphasized the need for joint efforts to combat hate speech and extremism and to enhance the role of religious and intellectual institutions in fostering peace and mutual respect.
Dr. Al Tayeb praised Bahrain's initiatives in promoting coexistence and dialogue and stressed the importance of continued cooperation and the sharing of expertise to support common values and goals.
