Manama: Nawaf bin Mohammed Al Maawda, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, commended the issuance of Order (18) of 2026 establishing the Council of Islamic Endowments Affairs. The Justice Minister stated that the council will function as a regulatory, strategic, and supervisory body overseeing the endowments sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain, supporting institutional development and the principles of governance, efficiency, and sustainability.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Al Maawda emphasized that the council will be responsible for formulating general policies for the endowments sector, supervising and monitoring its work, and approving plans and strategies aimed at developing endowments and maximizing their societal impact to enhance their developmental role. He confirmed that the Sunni Endowments Administration and the Jaafari Endowments Administration will continue as the executive bodies managing the affairs of each endowment within a unified regulatory framework that strengthens institutional integration and reinforces governance and transparency principles.
The Justice Minister highlighted that the establishment of the council represents a step towards developing the endowments system by enhancing the efficiency of managing endowment assets and achieving the financial sustainability of investment returns. This will be accomplished by developing endowment portfolios in line with modern administrative and investment practices.
Minister Al Maawda added that the council will contribute to unifying institutional efforts and developing regulations and bylaws governing endowment work to achieve greater efficiency and improve governance. He noted that the council will also work on preparing a comprehensive strategy for organizing and developing the endowments sector and establishing unified objectives and policies. The strategy aims to support a modern and sustainable endowments system capable of keeping pace with leading regional and international practices while enhancing the contribution of endowments to community service and development.
