Jordan Bromine Company celebrates 20th anniversary

Jordan Bromine Factory celebrated its 20th founding anniversary Sunday with the Prime Minister, the House Speaker, officials and businessmen. Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh said, in a speech during the ceremony, “I am honoured to be present on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Jordan Bromine Factory through a strategic partnership between the Jordan Bromine Company and the American Albemarle Corporation.” Khasawneh praised the Jordan Bromine Company’s work since its inception, noting that the Jordan Bromine Factory is the second-largest bromine plant in the world. “We hope that shortly, it will become the largest bromine plant in the world,” he added. Khasawneh added that the mining sector is “essential” within the axes of the economic modernisation vision in Jordan, explaining that it attaches “special attention” to the sector. He said the government is “committed” to facilitating expansion and supporting the economy. The Company General Director, Samer Asfour, said the company makes up two per cent of the GDP in Jordan, six per cent of national exports, and 18 per cent of the volume of work in Aqaba. Asfour added that the company employs about 630 workers and more than 2,000 people indirectly, noting the company’s support for local communities in the Jordan Valley by investing in education, health and agriculture.
