Manama: As part of its commitment to promoting legal awareness and inclusive justice, the Judicial and Legal Studies Institute (JLSI) has launched a legal training programme for the deaf. This initiative is in line with government priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the programme aims to provide deaf participants with basic legal knowledge about their rights in education, employment, health, and social services. It also covers judicial procedures, in accordance with national laws and international agreements on the rights of persons with disabilities.
The training was designed based on a needs assessment survey. This survey helped identify training priorities and shape the content to match the real challenges faced by the deaf in their daily dealings with administrative and legal bodies.
The four-day programme includes four specialised sessions, totalling 16 training hours. It covers key topics such as the legal framework for disability rights, laws related to the deaf, effective communication with legal authorities, and practical issues in Bahrain's family law.
The programme uses an interactive approach. Lectures are interpreted into sign language and supported by visual presentations, case studies, and modern technology to ensure practical understanding.
This phase is intended for members of the Bahrain Deaf Society. It is part of the Institute's efforts to promote legal fairness and empower people with disabilities to exercise their rights in a supportive legal environment.
