Italy Gains Sovereignty Over Subscriber Data During PM’s Visit to Bahrain

Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain has granted the Italian Republic sovereignty over subscriber data hosted in Bahrain's cloud computing centres, it has been announced during the official visit of Her Excellency Giorgia Meloni, President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, CEO of the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), highlighted the importance of developing Bahrain-Italy relations across various sectors. He emphasised Bahrain's commitment to expanding cooperation with Italy to achieve shared goals, exchange expertise, and enhance the development of digital infrastructure.

Al Qaed noted that this decision aligns with Decree-Law (56) of 2018 regarding the provision of cloud computing services to foreign entities and related ministerial decisions. He noted that the move reflects ongoing collaboration between Bahrain and Italy in digital transformation and expertise exchange.

He also underlined the commitment of both countries to further enhancing bilateral relations and advancing shared objectives. Al Qaed said Bahrain remains dedicated to supporting knowledge exchange in the ICT sector, contributing to the development of digital infrastructure and supporting the Kingdom's economic growth and development.
